RICCARTON.

The ordinary meeting of the Board was held yesterday at the office, Cashel street west. All the members present; Mr Thomas Pavitt (chairman , ). The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. A letter was read from the Secretary for Public Works (in reply), stating that the approaches to railway crossings on roads, may, by the Parliamentary plan, be constructed at a gradient of 1 in 20, and therefore the request of the Board to extend the approaches on the Harewood road could not be entertained, but that the contractor had been instructed to complete the metalling. A circular from the Provincial Secretary was received, asking to be supplied with a lithographed map of the district. The Surveyor was directed to comply with the request. The Treasurer reported that the sum of £25, being the balance of Government grant, had been placed to the credit of the Board. A letter was received from Mr James Wright, asking for certain repairs on the road leading from the Lincoln road to his property. The Surveyor was directed to inform Mr Wright that the road would be repaired, and the drainage attended to, if he would provide an outlet through his land to the creek. A petition was received from Messrs Martin, Porter, Smith and seven others, residing on section 145, praying that the Board would form the road fronting their properties, and offering to agree to a special rate of Is in the pound for the purpose. The Board having considered the matter, decided to comply with the request of the petitioners, and directed the Surveyor to take the necessary steps for levying the rate. The Surveyor was directed to advertise tenders for forming a portion of the Kaiapoi and Prebbleton road, near the Coal track and Hackett's road, from the Wairarapa road to the Avon district boundary. Also, to clear the ditch on the north side of' the Sawyer's Arms road, and to request Mr Searrell to plant willows on the bank of the mill-race, to prevent the road adjoining from washing away. The Surveyor's report on the work performed during the month was read and approved. The rate roll for the ensuing year, revised and corrected, was handed in by the Assessor, and received by the Board. The Collector applied to fcave John Foster's rates remitted, which was granted : accounts haying been passed for work done, the Board adjourned to Wednesday, the 4th proximo.
