« Tho usual meetingof the Drainago Beard was held yesterday afternoon ut half-paßt 1 o'clock; presont— Messrs H. J. Tancred (Chairman), B. J. S. Harman, White, C. Cuff, C. B. Blakiston, aud J. Tho Board considered the Engineer's report seriatim, and amongst other things it was resolved — " That tho Board is willing to grant relief botween the South belt aud Buskin street if the proprietors grant an easement giving tlie Board a right of drainage." Tho eecond clause was referred to tho hoad Board interested. The consideration of clause 3 was postponed uutil after the rate wa3 struck. The decision on clause 4 was postponed. Permiesion wae granted to Mr Green lo etraighten the creek at hia own expense. The remaining portions having been coneidered, the report as a whole was approved. CORBKSFONDENCE. From Mr F. Jonee, enclosing copy of resolution paeaed at a meeting of tho ratepayera, held at Chriatchurch in favour of tho " Local Hlectione Act, 187G" being brought into forco in conducting tho election of membera of the Drainago Board. Mr Whito moved — "That the necessary atepa be taken to bring the Act into force." The motion was agreed to. From tho Heathcote Eoad Board, calling attention to tho state of the culverts acroea the creek in St John's and Dyer's road. Also, to the necessity for larger pipes acrosa tho road by B.S. 1622, on the Lower Avon road. Beferred to tho engineer. From the Clerk to the Avon Boad Board, asking if tho Drainage Board intend to deepen tho drain on the Lower Avon road during the current year. Tho matter was ordered to Btand over for consideration. From certain owners and residents in St James' terrace, Carlton paddock, asking that the system of drainago of that locality, which had been cloeod, might bo re-opened, eo as to allow an outlet for etorm and arteeian water. The Board would allow the etorm-wator to be drained off by meane of connection with the etorm-water eewer. After passing eevoral accounts, tho Board adjourned. •
