SUDDEN DEATH.

MANSLAUGHTER ALLEGED. DanielPasche.agedsixty-seven yeara, died suddenly at Clarence Road, Addington, yesterday. He was quite well on Saturday, but on Sunday complained to his wife of a pain in the stomach. He was i unable to take food from Sunday. It is : alleged that a blow was the cause of his illness. From information obtained by the police '. it seems that a man named Archibald Davis, employed in the Railway Workshops, i at Addington, was alleged to have struck the deceased a severe blow m the stomach, ; after which the deceased experienced con- > tinuous abdominal pain. Detectives Benjamin and Livingstone arrested Davis at 11.30 last night, and he admitted having had si row with the deceased, ; aud having pushed him in tlie stomach, but disclaimed any intention of hurting him. Dr Symes conducted 'the .postmortem examination early this morning, and the inquest will be held at the Star Hotel, Addington, at 4.30 this afternoon, before Mr R. Beetham, 5.M.,. District Coroner. Davis appeared at the Stipendiary Magistrate's Court this morning on a charge of manslaughter, but was remanded until to-morrow morning. It is stated that two boys from the house where Davis lived, threw stones at Pasche, who complained about them to Constable M'Gill, and that the quarrel in which the injury is said to have been inflicted, arose out of some words which the deceased had with Davis in regard to the matter. Pasche was a Swiss, and a married man. He had lived in Foster Street, Addington, for several years, and was looked upon as a quiet, inoffensive man. He had been in general good health up to the time of his death. Davis, who has been employed in the Addington railway workshops fora number of years, was engaged in the management of a steam hammer, used in making steel forgings, and was brought out from Home to do this special work. He is an industrious man, and is well known in town, especially in trotting circles.
