MR THOMAS HANCOCK.
Another old Canterbury settler lias gone to liis -last rest, in the person of Mr Thomas Hancock, who died at his residence, Papanui, this morning. Mr Hancock, who came out to Canterbury in 1862, made his first start in business as a grocer in Christchurch, on a site which is now occupied by the railway line in Colombo Street south. From there he went to Montreal Street, where for a number of years he carried on the soap business which is now run by his son, Mr A. H. Hancock. Retiring from business, Mr Hancock then applied himself to agricultural pursuits, which he followed until his death. Three sons and four daughters are left to mourn their loss. He died at the ripe ape of eighty-six, and retained his faculties to the last, having been only confined to his. bed for a fortnight previous to his death.
