Harry Limmer, of Hastings, was riding the racehorse Amato towards Petane to-day when the aniinal shied at a 'bus. -liimmer Was thrown, and the 'bus passed over him, breaking both his legs and crushing his left hand. DUNEDIN, Decemher 27. A youth named John Edwin Harle, sixteen years of age, was accidentally drowned at Pounawea (Catlins) on* Sunday, while bathing. DEATH AT SYDENHAM. George Piper, aged sixty-six, a resident of Tennyson Street, Sydenham, fell dead yesterday afternoon in Fisher Street, while out walking with his daughter. The body was taken to his home, where Mr H. W. Bishop, Coroner, oonducted. an inquest last evening. Dr J. R- Thomas gave evidence that the symptoms pointed to heart disease, and a verdict was returned accordingly. Mr Piper, who had a family of nine, was a brickmaker by trade, but recently had been labouring and contracting.
