ROAD BOARDS.

HEATHCOTE. An ordinary montlily meotiug of the Heathcote Road Board was held on June 7th. Present—Mr Edward Curry (Chairman) and Messrs A. VViffeu, G. H. McHttffie, Ei. Malcolm, (jr. Mitchell. A communication was received from the Auditor-General enclosing balance-sheet;. A resolution was passed to instruct the City Couucil to pay the lessee of the Rocky Point quarry the royalty on all metal delivered since April lac. A letter was read from the Board's solicitors informing the members that a settlement had bean effected with the Insurance Company in the disputed fidelity guarantee of tha late clerk Miils. A deputation was appointed to confer with theAvou Road Board re the piles under New Brighton Bridge. A Committee was appointed to bring under the notice of his/ Excellency the Governor the manoer in which the boundaries of the proposed Borough of New Brighton are planned. Correspondence wa3 received from the Auditor-General enclosing award in the dispute with the Drainage Board. The award was £129 Is 10d, to be paid by the Road Board to the Drainage Board ouc of the drainage rates held by this Board as commission, and n 3£ per cent, to be the amount of commission charged ou all future rates collected for the Drainage Board. A claim was received from the Drainage Board for amount of award, and offering 2£ per cent, for collecting, and 2£ per cent. bonu3, all rates to be accounted for by March 31st. This Board resolved to abide by the terms of the award. The Sydenham Borough Council asked Ihe Board to make an effort to widen Tennyson street to a full chain, they agreeing to pay half the cost. The matter was left for the member of So. Martins to. report on. It was resolved that specifications be prepared and tenders called for feuciug Breezes , road, from Page's road to Kevv Brighton road. Works were authorised to ab once bo pub in hand in Opawa, St. Martins, and Avon wards. Correspondence from the Selwya County Council was received covering bonus for the destruction of small birds, and requiring particulars of charitable aid rate in the wards divided between Woolston, Lin wood, and Road Board district; also particulars of revenue for Registrar-General. Mr A. Wifien resigned , the position of honorary treasurer. A hearty vote'qf thanks was accorded to Mr -WifFen for th'e able manner in which he filled the office. It wae proposed and seconded that the rates for che present financial year be struck and levied in accordance with the advertised notice. Carried. Accounts amounting to £103 17e lid were passed for payment. The meeting then closed. '
