"j We regret to have to announce the death j'"of* Mr Joshua Page, who has been identified I witn Christchurch from tho earliest days. 1 Mr Pag«a was born in lincolnsrhire in 1827. . 5 He arrived in Australia, in 1851, and, six 6 years later, came across to Lyttelton in the ■ schooner Mary Thompson. After remain--1 ing in business in Cnristchurch for some 1 years, hd settled in the Timaru district, J and was engaged in farming pursuits there ■ for fifteen years. He subsequently sold out, > and came to Christchurch, where ho has since 1 resided. Mr Pago had been ailing for the * past twelve months, and his death,' which r was not unlooked for, took placyat an early 1 hour yesterday morning. », Though Mr Page never took an • r active part in public matters, he was . connected with theAgricultural. and Pastoral t Association since its inception, and his serr vices 'have been frequently called in as t judge at the various shows in this provincial district. During his residence in s Timaru, he was one of the promoters of tho - Fanners' Co-operative Association, of which! j he was chairman for many years.
