I . There were present at the last meeting of the Waiaiairi County Council— Meats &. A. Staples (chairman), W. f.: S^^yT > J * Cieland, R. W. Hawke, VV. J. Salter, J. Honna, I. Parish, S. iJuLock and F. Sisson. A deputation reprosentung a larce number of Riccarton ratepayers waited -jpen tho Council for information, respecting the f estabhsninent of a Riccarton Borough or otherwise. They stated that they felt tho oounty scheme had hardly been given sufficient timo or a fair opportunity to satisfy tho ratepayers as to whether the scheme was a good one or | not. The clerk was instructed to forward the deputation the information they desired. New culverts were authorised to be constructed in McFadden's read and Westminster street. The Council accepted Mr Selwyn's offer to wid-en Sei.vyn's road, the work of which is now in hand. ___ The Council remitted the rates ou 6t. -Saviour's Home, Richmond, for the current year. A letter was received from Mr Charles Parker, stating that the residents of Poynder avenue, •» roxton wished to carry out the original intention that was suggested when the name of the street was changed, namely, to plant an avenue of trees. Each resident was prepared to pay his share of the cost, but before proceeding with the work they wanted the permission of tho Council. The matter I was referred to Mr Bullock and the I engineer, with power to act. The | Chairman,_ Mr Bullock, and tho clerk' were appointed delegates to the C-oun- j ties' Conference, to bo held in Welling-' ton. An undertaking was received j from Belfast residents to pay £36 towards the cost of forming and shingling the northern end of Howard street, I Belfast. The Council resolved to do the work as soon as possible.
