ROAD BOARDS.

AVON. The usual meeting of the Board took place en the 23rd instant. There were present Messrs Peacock, Dickinson and Duncan. Mv Peacock, in the absence of the chairman, was voted to the chair. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. The Clerk reported that ho had received since last meeting the following sums, which he had paid into the Sank to the Board's credit, viz., 3d rate, £6 17s 9d ; "Waimakariri, £l'ss 6d ; and £60 paid in by the Government from the General Government grant, making in ail £68 3s 3d. The balance to the Board's credit is £94 18s Bd. With regard to the decision come to last meeting in the matter of letting Mr Pavitt have the flax on the roads in the district, the time for taking it was limited to the end of the current year. The tenders for Bcaley's and Daniel's roads were again considered, and it was resolved that fresh tenders be invited for them. The Chairman no w entered and took his place. A letter was read from Mrs Jones, asking the Board to put in a culvert opposite his property at New Brighton. The request was refused. A letter was read from the Provincial Treasurer, informing the Board that £60 had been lodged to the Board's credit at the Bank. A letter was read from the Provincial Secretary, requesting that a copy of the rate-roll of the- district comprised within the limits of the Papanui educational district might be supplied to Mr Munro, who had been appointed tho collector. A letter wa3 read from Mr Dobson, asking tho Board to remit her rates on account of poverty. Her request was acceded to. It was resolved that the extra cost of the footpath on the Springfield road should be paid by the Board to the extent of the difference between tho rate and tender of the work. Tenders for the following works were opened : — Styx bridge drainage, let ; Hill's creek, not let ; Riccarton drainage, let ; St. Alban's drain, not let ; footpath Springfield road, let. Tho Clerk was directed to invite tenders for the following works : — (1) Shingling Mr Philpott's road, St. Albans ; (2) supply of ahinglo, St. Albans and neighbouring roads ; (3) forming Waimakariri Sandhills road. Tho Clerk was directed to prepare a specification for keeping St. Albans and neighbouring roads in repair for one year. Messrs Mills and Hawkins saw the Board and requested it to make the road alongside Homer's drain and Mills's road ; and also repair a culvert on the new North road. Tho Chairman said that the clerk would attend to the matter. Accounts to the amount of £36 17s 8d wero passed and ordered to be paid. The Board then adjourned.
