ROAD BOARDS.

AVON. This Board met on Monday last ; present — Messrs Flesher, Dunlop, Cooper, Munro and the Ohairman. — The reports of the Surveyor and Foreman of Works were read and considered. — The Surveyor was instructed to see Mr Brooks, and ascertain his requirements. — Correspondence was read--From the Drainage Board, stating that Messrs Brown and White had been appointed to confer with a deputation from the Avon Board, re the culvert across the Sawyers' Arms road. Messrs Munro, Cooper and the Chairman were appointed to meet them, .and the Clerk was instructed to notify Messrs Brown and White of the same, tbe meeting to take place at the Sawyers' Arms Boad on Wednesday, at 2 o'clook. — Replies were received from the Premier and Mr Rolleston acknowledging receipt of copy of resolution re Government scheme for assessing. — Mr Harrison saw tho Board relative to the drainage of his land. He was informed that this Board had no liability in the matter, and would recommend him to apply to the Drainage Board. — The Clerk was instructed to write to the Drainage Board relative to the expense incurred by the Board in repairing the road by Kruse'e, twice occasioned by the culvert orosßing the road, being defeolive. — It being reported that Mr Joynt was having a ditch cut along the side channel on the Papanui road to take the storm-water from his property, it was resolved — "That the attention of Mr Joynt be called to Section 97, subsection 3 of « The Publio Works Act, 1376,* and that he be notified to deeisfc from cutting the ditch, and to fill the same jn again at once. — A petition was received from tenants on Church property, section 324, requesting the Board to form the roads through the said section. The Clerk was instructed to forward the petition to the Church Property Trustees : also to write stating that the Board cannot take over the roads until properly formed.— From Mr Freeman relative to state of side drain in Dean street. — From Mr J. T. Matson relative to water flooding his land. From Mr Willis on the same subject. The Olerk was instructed to reply in each case. The Olerk was further instructed tonotifyin tho publio papers that Mr Flesher, at Bingsland, Mr Munro, at Papanui, and Mr Cooper and the Clerk, at 8t Albans, will attest claims to be registered as electors. — It being reported to this Board that ratepayers in a portion of this district arc seeking to have thoir properties annexed to the Riccarton Road District, and others to bo formed into a Borough, it is resolved — "That the Government (before complying with any requisition for thotu objects, be requested to furnish this Board with the reasons given for the proposed chunges ; also, that the Board have an opportunity of replying to the same." — Accounts to tho amount of £212 10s were passed and ordered to be paid, and the Board adjourned.
