ST ALBANS BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The fortnightly meeting of the Sfc Albam Borough Council was held at 7.30 p.m, yesterday; present — The Mayor (Chairman), and Councillors Penteney, Moor. Smith, Bull, Meares, Pyne, Brooker and Coleman. FINANCE. The Finance Committee reported receipts since last meeting j£2oo 5s 2d, accounts for payment .£377 Us lid, and overdraft at the bank J8135 lla lid. The report was adopted. SANITARY. Councillor Moor, for the Sanitary Committee, reported that a number of notices had been served on residents in the Borough to abate nuisances." The report was adopted. WOIIKS. Councillor Coleman reported for the Works Committee that they had considered the offer of the Halswell Quarry Company for the supply of broken metal, and could not accept the offer, as they considered the price too high ; that the new water-cart was at work on the roads, and gave every satisfaction ; that the drainage of High 9treet with six-inch pipes had been completed ; that the channelling in Hewitt street, Springfield road, Nortu street and High street had been attended to ; and a quantity of other work done on the roads in the Borough. In answer to a question if there had been any delay in comoiencing the watering of the roads, it was stated that this year it had been commenced considerably earlier than usual. The report was adopted. MISCELLANEOUS. Councillor Brooker apologised for the absence of Councillor Heard, owing to illness. A letter from Messrs Lake and Evans re the road on Mrs Garforth's property in Merivale lane, was referred to the Finance Committee to report upon. A letter was read from the Christchurch City Council, stating that they would be willing to put the North Town belt, between Barbadoes street and the East belt, in order, charging half the Co3t to the Council. On the motion of Councillor Bull, the offer was accepted. It was decided to take action, on the expiry of current notice, against residents in the Borough having barb wire fences abutting on roads. A deputation of residents in Flockton street waited on the Council, asking them to form that street, and bringing a petition to that effect). The matter was referred to the Works Committee, with power to act. Councillor Bull suggested having notice boards replaced on the bridges in the Borough, cautioning traction-engine drivers as to the safety of these bridges. The matter was referred to the Works Committee. Several unimportant matters were dealt with, and the Council then went into Committee, and on resuming adjourned.
