Seed Company, Limited, Christchurch, have received the following communication from the Tasmanian Exhibition : — " Your seeds gained four first awards (silver medals), beating everything in their classes." | Shaw, Savill v. Timaeu Harbour . Board. — This morning his Honor Mr j Justice Denniston dismissed, with three j guineas costs, a motion by Mr Joynt, on 1 behalf of the defendant, for an order to 1 review the taxation of the costs in the case of the Shaw, Savill and Albion Company ; V. the Timaru Harbour Board, which was j carried from the Court of Appeal to the l"rivy Council. Ta6mani an Exhibition.— Messrs Morrow, Bssßett and Co., of Christchurch and Dunedin, have received the following intimation respecting exhibits forwarded by them to the Tasmanian Exhibition : — " Tbe M'Cormick reaper and binder took special first award for construction, simplicity and strength. The Big 4 mower also took first award. The award for the reaper and binder carries a gold medal with it." St Albans Licensing Committee. — The quarterly meeting of the Sc Albana Licensing Committee was held at noon to-day at the Borough Council Office* The memher3 present were Mr H. J. Hall (Chairman), and Messrs J. Penteney, W. J. Neate and J. Heard. The temporary transfer of the license of the Carlton Hotel, from G. Plummer to (J. Barlow, waa confirmed. An application for a transfer of the license of the Caledonian Hotel, from H. Priston to A. F. Redwood, was considered and deferred till noon to-morrow. Negligent Parents. — A gentleman, goin^ home from a recent public meeting, stumbled over a child who lay asleep on the footpath opposite its parents' residence. On being asked what ho was doing there, the little fellow replied that his parents were attending a "social" that evening, and that till they came home he could not gain admittance to the house. The gentleman thinks that cases such as that under notice are of more frequent occurrence than they should be, and advocates steps being taken to bring negligent parents to book. Good Templary. — The Progress of Linwood Lodge, No. SG, held its usual weekly meeting in the Primitive MethodistChnrcb, St Asaph street, on Monday last. The Lodge wa3 opened in due form at 7.30 by Bro Wilson, C.T. There was a good attendance of members and visitors. After the usual routine bueineßs the Lodge Deputy was elected for the ensuing year. Nominations for District Deputy were taken. There being no other business the Lodge went into harmony, the following contributing : — Sisters Donovan (2) and Bailey, Bros Young, Ralph, Armstrong and Chapman. The Lodge waa closed at 9.30 by Bro Wilson, C.T. Lyttelton Borough Council. — The usual fortnightly meeting of this Council was held on Monday evening; present— Hia Worship the Mayor (Mr J. T. Brice), and Councillors Cook, Webb, Chambers, Mitchell, Laurenson and Allwright. Correspondence was read from : — Mr D. Brick, forwarding a cheque for J6IOO on account of rent. From Mr J. Stinson, asking for a meter for supplying water to the steamer John Anderson. The application was granted on the usual conditions. The Finance Committee reported the receipts Bince last meeting as £187 153 9d, and recommended payments amounting to £182 83 lid. The Foreman of Works reported on the works in progreEs. The engineer in charge of the pumping station reported that the reservoir needed washing out with I lime, and the drains leading from it also needed cleaning. It was resolved to have the work done at once. Tenders were opened for a new boiler for tho pumping station, and the tender of Messrs Scott Bros, 103, was accepted. The engagement of an inspector for the contract was referred to the Water Supply Committee to report upon at next meeting. It was resolved to call for tenders for the erection of a boiler-house. After disposing of other matters the meeting closed. Waimakaribi Hakboub Board.— The monthly meeting wbb held on Monday night; present — Mr E. Moore (Chairman), and Messrs Feldwick, Horrell, Smethurst, and Mathewe. Leave of absence wa3 granted to the Mayor. Letters were read trom Messrs Priestman and Son, concerning the dredge, and (from the Pilot covering the monthly report. The latter was adopted. "Mr Mathews reported for the Works Committee that they had visited the Pilot station recently, and found the eigDal staff and beacons in good order. It would be necessary to erect a brush breakwind to prevent the sand from encroaching on the house. The estimated expense would be about .£6. It was resolved—" That the Works Committee be empowered to get the work done at once." The Chairman reported the arrangements he had made as to the dredge, and his action was approved of. It was resolved that the Works Committee and Chairman should prepare plans and specifications for the dredge. The Secretary reported a credit balance in the Bank of .£Bl. It was resolved to pass for payment accounts amounting to JEIO 2s 2d. Mr Mathews moved, and Mr Horrell seconded — " That Messrs Feldwick and Fraser be the Works Committee." This was carried. The meeting then terminated. George King and Co. Ltd., report having made the following sales : — On account of Mr Jas. Reid, 135 acres of good agricultural land at Carleton to Mr Wm, Eeed ; 011 account of Mr Melville Dickson, 70 acres at DunsandHl — a very compact little farm — to Mr J. M. Meyer ; on account of Mr Thos. Potter, 2J acres on Sawyers' Arm's road to Mr J Talbot ; on account of Mr E. W. Roper, 20 acres at New Brighton to a syndicate ; on account of Mr <\ M. Cresswell, a 5-roomed house and 2 acres land at Belfast to Mr W. H. Allen ; on account of Mr John Hodgee, about 40 acres of rich land at Marshlands to Mrs Sarah Basaott. We have also sold a large number of sections in Lonsdale street, Now Brighton, at prices ranging from £25 to J&4O. Since a start hns been made at the formation of Lonsdale street quite a rush is going on, for these sections, and we expect Bhortly to be able to report the sale of the whole block. We also disposed of a quarteracre section in Wilson street.New Brighton, at £G5. We have numerous inquiries from bon&fide purchasers for really good farms, and now that the lull during harvest is over we expect to be able to report several good sales within the next week or two. There are also a great many inquiries for farms to rent, but at present very few available. We have let several houses in town and suburbs, and have plenty of inquiries for really nice properties handy to town. Pbotovrophy, as executed by C. H. Mannin?, is admitted t.o be, by a very critical and discriminat. inir public, as high class as it is possible to lie obtained anywhere. C. H. Manning has been specially appointed photographer to bis Excellency tue Earl of Onelow, aud also the Countess and family.
