BICCARTON.

An ordinary meeting of this Board was held on Monday; present— All the members. Correspondence waa read — From Mr G. W. Russell, M.H.R., enclosing a copy of the Local Authorities Loans Conversion Bill, and stating that he would urge on the Government the necessity of passing it this session. It was resolved to acknowledge receipt of the Bill, and to thank Mr BusseU for his services. From Mr Rowland, calling attention to the state of the side channel in front of his premises. The matter was referred to the Surveyor. From the Commissioner of Taxes, asking to be supplied with the total rateable value of the district for the purpose of arriving at the amount of subsidy for the current year. The Clerk stated that he had supplied the information. From Mr Preston in reference to damage at the Styx. It was resolved to bring the matter before the Drainage Board. The Chairman reported having accepted a tender for boulders. His action was approved, and the Surveyor was directed to make arrangements for carting an extra supply of boulders. A copy of the Local Government Bill waa received, and it waa resolved to inform the Premier that in the opinion of the Riccarton Road Board it would be unadvieable to pasß the Act this session or until the people had had an opportunity of considering it. The Surveyor reported on the probable cost of making a footpath on the Styx Road, and after consideration it was resolved to defer the matter, pending arrangements being made with the owners of the land adjoining the road. The Surveyor's report on works in progress was read and approved. The Clerk waß authorised to prooure more poisoned wheat for distribution in the district. After passing accounts the Board rose.

AVON.

An ordinary meeting of this Board- was held on Monday, Sept. 9 1 preaent— Messrs Dunlop (chairman), Burgess, Homer, M'lntyre and Nioholls. Mesars Banka and Mallet aaked the Board to metal a further portion of King Street, Windsor. It was decided to spend an amount of the Board's funds equal to that contributed by owners or occupiers. Messrs Quaid and Goode drew the attention of the Board to defective drainage on Quaid's Boad. It was decided to write to the Drainage Board. Mr Bampton interviewed the Board with reference to a drain needing cleaning out and fences projecting over the footpath on Cooper'a Boad. Notices were ordered to be served. A large amount of correspondence waa dealt with. The Drainage Board intimated that the old outlet from Horseshoe Lake would be cleared forthwith. The City and Suburban Tramway Company wrote stating that culverts would be put nnder the line to improve the drainage. Mr J. F. Boberts asked for a footpath to be made from Buxtons Corner to Lookeley. The Board regretted thia could not be done at present, owing to lack of f unda. A number of ratepayers' petitioned to have Bowhill and Bacecourse Boads formed. Portions had already been done, and the remainder was put off until f unda were available. Mr Homer and the Clerk were appointed to solicit oontributiona towards the cost of watering Papanui Boad, and to make arrangements for watering. It was resolved, on J8250 being paid into the Board's funds, to form and metal roads on Bural Seotion -345 a. It was deoided to refix planks to piles on the esplanade, New Brighton, and to sow grass seed on certain streets after filling in ruts. The Surreyor's report was received. After passing accounts and ordering that rates outstanding on Sept. 30 should be sued for, the meeting terminated.

SPBEYDON.

The usual monthly meeting was held on Thursday, Sept. 5 ; present-— Messrs W. H. Manhire (obairman), J. T. Brown and J. Hooking. Mr Brown reported what had taken place at the conference in regard to Jerrold Street between the Sydenham Works Committee and the delegates appointed by the Board. Mr Manhire also explained some other matters. The reports 'were received. Correspondence waa read from ratepayera in Dunn Street, asking that their rates might be remitted to aid them in improving the street. The matter waa held over until next meeting. Consideration of the Looal Government Bill waa deferred to the next meeting. The Foreman's report of work done during the month waa laid on the table. The paysheet, £43 la 2d, was passed, and the meeting then closed.

A new company has been formed to promote the manufacture of cotton from woodpulp. White duck trousers made from this artificial textile thread will stand washing, and, moreover, are cheap.
