ST ALBANS.

A meeting- o f the St Albans Borough Council was held last .night; present—the mayor (Air T. H. Davey), and Councillors Dearsley, Newton, Bates, Morgan, Neate, Keig and Glass. A petition requesting, the Council to construct a footpath along the south-western side of Shirley Road, was referred to the Works Committee. The Sanitary Inspector's report stated that 700 notices had been served in connection wdbk sanitary matters, and 145 to cut back trees and live fences. With few exceptions they had -been complied with. The practice of draining slops into the street side channels continued in a. number of instances. The report was referred to Sanitary Committee. The Works Committee recommended that the formation of Packe's Road frcm Dean Street to the Belt should be put in hand at once, and that the offer of Lucas Bros, to construct a- foiir-wheeled water-cart wi<tih sprinkler for £85 10a should be^accepted. .The Finance Committee rep'crted that on the ' general account the credit balance at the Bank of New Zealand waa £236 19s' 3d." In connection with the loan account, the credit balance•was J3658 2s 7d. Tho Sydenham Borough Council forwarded a circular with reference to the resolution passed at the late Municipal Conference at Wellington, to the effect ' tibafc the license fees <n cabs, drags, etc.,' should be distributed ' among the different local bodies in proportion to their population. It was decided to forward letters to the Ohristohurch and suburban members and the Minister in charge of the Bill,,asking them to support the resolution.
