DRAINAGE BOARD.
The fortnightly met ting of tho Christohuroh District Drainage Board was hold yesterday afternoon, at half- past 2 o'clock; prebent— ■ Mossrs R. J. S. flat man (chairman), Duncan, H. J. Tanored, and Roes. Mr Duncan taid thairbo had been requested to stato that Mr Hobbs was precluded from attending tho meeting. A letter was read from Mr 0. R. Blakiston, stating that he was unablo to attend tho meeting through serving on the Grand Jury. ENGINEER'S BEI'ORT. The following is the Engineer's report !— " 1. Referring again to Mr Coloman's request for compensation for land taken fiom him to widen St Albacs creek at Knightstown, I find it impossible to define exactly the position which tho oreok originally occupied. The ( plan submitted herewith shows tho position of the creek at presont, and approximately tho position when the land was originally bought; from which it appears that ib has in the course of time been entirely diverted on to Mr Coleman's soction, whereas the original bank was formerly his boundary, § Originally tho creek had a width assigned to it of 40 links, but vow it has only 15. Tho claim Mr Coleman makes i?, however, only for a strip of land taken off his seotion when tho creek wos deepened, none being taken from the other side on account of tho large trees growing on the bank. Mr Coleman protested at the time against tho widening being made ontirely on hh side, but his protest was disregarded on acwiint of the expenso of removing tho trees, and tho probability of litigation arising from doing so. The extent of land taken from him amounts to 0.0148 acre, or one and a-half hundroths of an aore. " 2. In regard to the request from the Avon Boad Board that the part of the deep drain on the North Canal reserve should bo filled in from Dudley creek to No. I. drain, on whioh I waa instructed to report, I find that thero is no reason for this not being done, provided small sido drains were mado on the road. The No. 1 drain now takes all the wator to the Horse-shoo lake, which tho deep drain was intended to convey to Dudley creek. The small drains mentioned abovo should fall towards No. 1 drain. *' 3. I havo had a soction taken at Morden's road, Woolston, and find that it would bo considerably oheaper to cut down to tho road so as to tako the water from tho Ferry road into the river. Besides smaller first cost, this plan would have Iho advantage of nofc requiring so much attention afterwards. "4. Tho contractor for tho pumping tank and sowerS has commenced work, and has delivered somo material on tho ground. "5. The Madras street sewer is making fair progress. " H. Tho old sewer in tho South bolt has now boen cleaned out, and over 40 cartloads of sand taken from it. It has also been repaired in sovoral places. A quantity of sand has been taken out of tho Ferry road sower, which camo from tho pumping at the new gasholdor at tho gas works. "7. Referring to Mr Wood's oomplaint as to the filling in of tho Wairarapa river, I havo had sections taken, bufc they are not yet sufficiently oompleto to enablo me to report." With regard to clause 1, it was resolved to pay Mr Coleman tho sum of £10 as compensation for ltfnd taken. As to claueo 2, it wag resolved that permission be given to tho Avon Road Board to fill in tho drain, conditional on that Board forming tho small Bide drains, lt was determined to sond a copy of clau*e 3 to Iho Heathcote Koad Board. Clauso 4 was roferred to tho Works Committci*. Clauso 5 was approved. It wa* resolved thafc application bo made to the Gas Company for the expense inourred in removing tho sand montionod in clause 6. The remaining clauso was approved. Tho Engineer also roported that tho levels were not yet completed for the proposed diversions asked for on sections 1192 and 1118. DRAINAGE 01' SYDENHAM. Correspondence wns road :— From tho Sydonhani Borough Counoil, stating that, in thoir opinion, the best and cheapest means of draining tho groater part of Sydenham would bo by constructing a sower in tho bed of Jackson's Crook, the outflow therefrom to enter tho sower laid in the Gasworks road. Referred to tho Engineer for his report thereon. vmLUvs' HOAD, A letter was read from tho Rev P. C. Anderson calling attention to the bad stato of tho d-nin in Phillips' road. This letter having boon received from tho Heathcote Road Board was roferred back to fchem as a mattor with which thoy had to deal, ACCOUNTS.
