Y.W.C.A. FUNCTION

A function always looked forward to and; always successful is the "residence Christmas dinner" held each year at the Y.W.C.A. hostel for young women in Brougham street. This year the occasion was quite as happy a one as usual/ Miss Scott conducted a short Christmas service at 12.30, and dinner was served at 1 o'clock. The diningroom tables had been arranged banquet fashion, and the room was prettily decorated in red and white, with a huge holly sprigged Christmas bell prominently displayed. Seventy-two sat down to th,e meal, and each girl received a small Christmas present, the gift of the Residence Club. The president of the association, Mrs. R. Pearson, conveyed the board's Christmas greetings. Miss Ada Caughley, on behalf of the girls presented Miss Cunningham, the hostel secretary, with an original coloured etching by a French artist, and Miss Peart, her assistant, with a crystal vase. Miss Cunningham replied, and asked all to show by acclamation their appreciation of the fine spirit with which ■ the domestic' staff had worked to, make, the festivity a success. Special thanks were also accorded the association's good friend (Mr. W. J Johnstone) for his assistance with the decorations.. The guests were: Mrs. Kobert Pearson (president), Mrs. F S Popo (honorary treasurer), Mrs. E C Adams, and Miss Speedy (board members), and Miss E. Holmes (chairman national senior work committee).
