WEDDING AT HASTINGS

GUESTS AERIVE BY AIR (By Telegraph.) (Special to "The Evening Post.") HASTINGS, This Day. One of the most brilliant weddings of the year was solemnised at St. Matthew's Church, Hastings, on Friday evening, when Rua, second daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. Symes, Richmond Park, was married to Bob, second son oi Mr. and Mrs. "W. Stead, Flaxmere, Hastings. As the bride and bridegroom are members of two old families in the district, the wedding created much interest. The church was charmingly decorated in the bride's favourite colour, blue. On the altar were vases of delphiniums, and at the chancel a beautiful archway of rambler roses and delphiniums was arranged with a wedding bell of blue cornflowers, roses, and maidenhair fern. The bride entered tho church with her father, her frock being most effective in its mediaeval simplicity. The gown was of parchment-coloured French lace over georgette, sleeveless and with a V neck. The train was cut hanging all in one with the skirt, and giving the effect of a beautifullace fan. The belt worn attho waistline was finished with a brilliant: buckle.: Tho, veil was of plain tulle worn with a circlet of orange blossom. The bride carried a sheaf of blue dclphinums (the gift of a friend). A string of pearls was the only ornament worn.

There.were four bridesmaids—Misses Jean Synies, Marie Stead, Joan Lanilcls (Hastings), and Mavis Muir (Gisbbrue). They wore frocks of Mary blue mariette, the bodice tut in a "U shape at.the back and finished with a true lover's knot in brilliants; the skirt was circular . with petalled frills on-a. net underskirt; their large hats were of ecru felt trimmed with blue velvet and turned up in front. Bach .wore the bridegroom's gift of mi aquamarine brooch. Their posies were Victorian, carried out in blue and pink edged with silver and pink tulle. The best man was Mf. Alex. Stead, and the groomsmen Messrs. Hume Strachan (Napier), H. Armstrong (Akitio), and F.M'Hardy (Aramoana). ■'. After- the: ceremony a reception was held at-the Assembly Hall, Hastings. Here friends had also been busy and had transformed the hall into a bower of greenery. Mrs.'Symes wore a handsome frock of black chiffon with crossover vest of pale pink georgette finished with a diamante buckle. With the frock went a coat of georgette flared at the sides, and finished with a scalloped frill. Grey fox fur formed the collar.'. The hat was a large black Bankok , trimmed with corded ribbon and a diamante buckle. The bouquet was of palp pink ros^s, sweet.peas, and asparagus fern.. Mrs. W. Stead's frock was of blue Paris lace over a silk and chiffon with touches of mauve and silver. Her hat was of blue crepe de chine with a blue osprey at the side. She carried a bouquet of pink carna-. tions. A coat .of blue ,and gold shot larhe with large brocaded roses completed the costume. Miss Connie Symes, who assisted her mother in receiving the guests, ,wbre a suit of carnationpink georgette with a hat of pink crinoline straw. Dancing followed the supper, the'bride and'bridegroom openiug the first dance. The going-away frock for the bride was French crepe de chine with a pleated skirt. She wore •j. large blue ha 6 and. .carried a blue handbag. . Mr. and Mrs. Stead left by car for the .North. Their, future home will bVin Napier. As both the bride and groom, and their families have taken a great interest in. Hying in Hawkes Bay, it was fitting that some of the. guests, .. who numbered over 300, should -arrive by- 'piano for the wedding. The' best man, Mr. H. Armstrong, arrived flying "in his own Moth from Dannevirke. Mr. Lan Hprton and Mr. NeiV Louisson flew from Auckland, and wore the guests of Mrs. Stead for the ceremony..
