ASHBURTON POULTRY SHOW.
• The first annual show of the Ashburton Poultry, Pigeon, and Canary Association was held in the Town Hall on Saturday, when a large number of oountry visitors attended, and throughout *he day and ovoning the building was well patronised. The entries were numerous, and the birds shown woro highly creditable to the exhibition. Amongst the special attractions of the show were the performing birds exhibited by Mr T. Bachelor, the littlo antics of which were a Bourco of entertainment to tho visitors, more especially the younger portion, who all day long Bwelled the levee ot the feathered tricksters. The following gentlemon acted as judges in tho classes noted : — Fowls, ducks, eee.«e, and turkeys — Mesßrs J. H. Wood, W. F. Earmhaw, and J. G. The hall was open till 10 o'clock, and waa well attended throughout. riGBON PIYING MATCH. In connection with fche show a pigeon flying match fcook place in the morning, between the Timaru railway station and the Aahburton. The entriea were Mr John Permain's Bmufc and Cadmus, and if. S. Saunders' Random aud Chieftain. The birds homed together, and the result waa considered a dead heat between the four. The flight took an hour and three-quarters, owing to a etrong north-eaafc wind that waa blowing.
