ANNUAL FESTIVAL
The fourth annual festival of the Diocuean Choral Association took place today. Services were held at the Cathedral, the first one being Holy Communion (plain) at 8 o'clock in the morning. At II o'clock matins were sung, the service being full choral. The Yen Archdeacon Harper preached from Colossians iii., 16. The following is a tabulated statement of the choirs taking part m the Festival : — SURPLrcED.
The totals therefore were: — Surpheed, 237; unsurpliced, 143; making an aggregate of SSO, as against 3*16 last year. At one o'clock the usual luncheon, which had, been most plentifully and tastefully provided by the ladies of the congregations represented, took place in Warner's Assembly Room, which was densely crowded. His Lordship the Primate presided. After grace had been sung, his Lordship proposed a vote of thankß to the Choral Association, whom^he congratulated on their success on this occasion. His Worship the Mayor proposed, " The health of the Primate," who responded ; and the Very Rev the Dean proposed "The Visitors." The Yen Archdeacon Harper responded, and the proceedings closed with three hearty cheers for the ladies. Among those present at the luncheon were the Cathedral ringers, who had been invited by the Committee, no doubt in recognition of the services rendered by them in the merry peals which had enlivened the city from time to time from early in the day.
