INDUSTRIAL ASSOCIATION.
A meeting of the Committee of the Industrial Association was held at 7.30 p.m. yesterday; present — Mesßrs G. T. Booth (President), J. Glanville, H. B. Kirk, R. Buchanan, J. Tait, L. Adams, A. G. Howland, E. H. Banks, L. Bergh, J. Waller, E. C. Ashby, T. Danks, E. Toomer, and W. Mercer. An apology for absence was received from Mr J. L. Scott. Letters were received from Messrs S. Manning and W. Recce, resigning their membership on the Committee. The resignations were accepted, and Messrs E. C. Brown and M. Sandstein were nominated to fill the vacancies. A letter was read from Mr H. B. Lane, resigning from the Association. Mr E. H. Banks gave the following notices of motion for nest meeting :— (1.) "That the financial year of the Association shall in future begin on Jan. J, and terminate on Dec. 31." (2) "That the time ofholding the annual conversazione be altered to the month of December." A set of photographs of the Waiau Gorge bridge, presented by Messrs J. and A. I Anderson, was laid before the Committee. ! The gift was accepted, and a vote of thanks passed to the Messrs Anderson. A large photograph of the Wingatui bridge, presented by the Hon E. Richard* son, was also accepted, with thanks. Mr E. V. Barnett wrote, requesting the patronage of the Association for the per. formances of his drama, "The Schemer." The Committee decided to accede to the request. A letter was read from Mr A. St John White, urging the claims of a State Bank of Issue, and requesting to be informed of the views of the Association on the subject. It wag decided to inform. Mr White that the Committee was not disposed to express an opinion on the matter at present, but would be glad if he would attend and explain his views at the general meeting of the Association on Dec. 21. Accounts amounting to £6 17s were passed for payment. A deputation from the Protection Associatiop, consisting of Messrs Douglass. E. Pavitt, and Pozzi, waited oh the Committee wiito reference to the Customs Tariff. T&mr stated that the Protection Associatioa Sad considered the Tariff, and drawn up a list of suggestions with the view of altering the Tariff so aa to encourage and foster local industries by placing higher duties on imported articles which could be made in the Colony. They wished the Industrial Association and all kindred Associations in the Colony . w to adopt a uniform set of suggestions, as the united opinion of these Societies would be bound to hare great weight with tha Government. They understood that tha Industrial Association intended to consider the subject, and would be glad to confet with them, or to give any other assistance in their power. The President informed the deputation that the Committee had received a copy of suggestions on the Tariff from the Wellington Manufacturers' Association. This had been referred to & Sub-Committee, which would be happy to consider the suggestions jf the Protection Association, if a copj were forwarded to them. After some discussion the Committed igreed to consider the suggestions of the Protection Association at a future meeting' This concluded the business.
