DAMAGE BY FERRETS.
« — «-- — -. — The following letter appeared in the ljttelton Times of this morning : — Sir, — To show the wholesale manner in which ferrets will destroy poultry, I beg to inform you of an incident that occurred a few nights ago. A ferret entered a pen containing 40 ducks and killed every bne. I think I am justified in putting it down to ferrets, as the ducks had no mark on them, save a small hole in the head, through which evidently the blood had been sucked. Stoats and weasels are well known to be keener after blood than ferrets. If some influential person would take the matter up, the introduction of these pests might be put a stop to. I beg to inclose a cutting taken from the Bcvon and Exeter Daily Gasette, of Sept. 20, showing the ferocity of ferrets. — I am, &c, Papanui, Nov. 19. H.E.R. [ENCLOSURE.] On Sunday night, at Misterton, in the absence of its mother, an infant was shockingly mutilated in the face by a ferret that had gofc loose. The child died in ten minutes after being discovered by its j mother.
