It appears the fire originated in a gorse bush on the Factory road. The engines turned out, and without much trouble the fire ivaa extinguished. Stdbnhah Wesmtan Sundat-School.-—A sale of work and other miscellaneous items of an interesting character, was held in the Colombo road Sunday schoolroom last night in aid of the building fund. The affair passed off successfully, in spite of numerous attractions elsewhere. The roompresented a gay scene, the Christmaß tree in the centre, under the charge of the Misses Brocklehutst, being the xooet Attractive feature. A stall,.on which -work, of all Mods was displayed, was presidedover by Mesdames Asqnith, Eudd and. Burr j a confectioner's stall by Mesdames Beare and J. L. Scott, Misses Caverhill, ■ Smart and Beare ; Mr Denne had charge o£ a bookstall ; Mr Page, of the Canterbury; College, worked an electrical display in a manner which afforded much gratification, and more surprise, to hia audience; Mr' Ffrost told the tale of phrenology to numerous applicants; ilr Billens presided over an art gallery of tk> mean proportions ; while a shooting gallery provided innocent amusement to old and young alike.
