Since Sept. 11, 800 cases bave been reported. ..Twenty-one deaths have occurred at Maidstone in connection with the outbreak of typhoid. THE IETSH POTATO CEO PS. Mr Gerald Balfour, Chief Secretary for Ireland, will make a tour of the districts of Ireland where the potato crops have been a partial failure, and famine is threatened. CHURCH CONGRESS. LONDON, Sept. 29. The Church Congress at Nottingham was opened by Dr George Ridding, Bishop of Southwell, the President. Among the prelates who attended were the Archbishop of Sydney, ihe Bishop of Ballarat, the coadjutor of the Bishop of Brisbane, and the Primate of New Zealand. Bishop ßarry,lncumbent of St James's, Piccadilly, formerly Bishop of Sydney, who was amongst the speakers, expressed, the opinion that the free federation of the churches was the best, realisation of the Anglican idea visible, and it would not infringe upon the prime right of self government. Br Cowle advocated a free interchange of clergy between the colonies and the United Kingdom.
