SCHOOL COMMITTEES.
♦ - ■ An ordinary meeth% of the Waltham School Committee was held on Thursday evening ; present — Messrs J. B. Sim (chairman,), W. Wraight, D. Gow, R. M. Taylor, A. Clifford and J. C. Joll. The headmaster reported that the average attendance for the past month had been 426, the roll number being 486. The report stated that forty-five girls from this school had attended the cooking classes at tlie School of Domestic Instruction during the term just dosing, and that their attendance had been unusually satisfactory. A letter was received from the North Canterbury Branch of the New Zealand Educational Institute, asking the committee's consideration of the raising of the capitation grant to £4. The committee expressed itself favourable to the proposal. Mr W. Dit-f ort was elected a member of the committee in place cf Mr Young (resigned). Messrs Joll and R. M. Taylor were appointed visitors. Accounts amounting to £11 lis lOd were passed for payment.
