PRESENTATIONS.
4 Mr C. Jewell, for several years manager of the show-room in Messrs Beath and Co. s, and who recently left that employment, has been presented by his late fellow-employees with a very Handsome Maltese cross of polished' greenstone beautifully mounted in chased gold.
Professor Eichhorst, of Zurich, reports a case of a boy, aged twelve years, who died on May 5. On the day before being taken ill the boy had eaten largo quantities of common sorrel (Rumex acetosa), and the most careful questioning of the relatives and the attending physician did not bring to light any other cause of illness. Professor Eichhorst mentioned that tliero are no cases to be found in German literature, but tliat French veterinary surgeons report fatal cases in horses due to over-consump-tion of this herb. Under these circumstances, the " Lancet " urges upon us that it seems particularly nnportant the public should be made aware of these facts, as common sorrel is considered innocuous and happens to bo a favourite dish of boys and girls in early summer.
