CLOTH MOVIE FILM

Dr.F. W. Hoclistetter, a Pittsburgh scientist, recently demonstrated a nfotion picture film made oi fabric instead of celluloid*. The^chief .advantages are eiioapness and -nou-inflammability. The fabric film is made by a process similar to that used in the manufacture of artihcial silk, being parchmentised with strong alkali and the interstices between the fibres filled. The film is translucent instead of transparent, but no objectionable effect is caused by the mesh of the cloth. Because of this translucence a much stronger light must •|»-aaea-tban with a celluloid film, but the-film produces more perfect gradation of light and shadow. The film may be put to use for both sound and silent:moving picture reproduction.
