ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.

* Some days ago a tailor named James Tucker was injured in a bicycle collision at the corner of Lichfield and Colombo Streets, and was taken to the hospital, [ where it was discovered that his nose was broken. He was considered well enough to leave the hospital on Friday, and appeared to be doing well up to Saturday evening, when hasmorrhage set in, and ho was again taken to the hospital. The symp- , toms were somewhat alarming during Saturday night, but he showed considerable improvement last evening. About 6 p.m. on Saturday a City Council employee named Thomas Sterling was admitted to the hospital, suffering from a severe scalp wound, said to have been the result of a blow. An old man named James Grote, a ship carpenter, who. for some years had lived alone in a house on the Sumner Road, Lyttelton, was found dead in bed yesterday morning. He was over sixty-nine • years of age, and had suffered from influenza for a few days. He was last seen alive between seven and eight o'clock on Saturday evening, when he seemed to be better. About eight o'clock yesterday a son of Mr Arnold, who lives near, went to Crote's house to take him some tea, but found the door locked, and could get no reply to his knocking. He told Mr P. Enlund, the owner of the house, who informed the police. Constable Hastie accompanied Mr Enlund to the house, broke open the door, and discovered Grote lying in bed dead. He had no relations in the colony.
